A Friday night, a full parking lot, and a 30 minute wait for a non-smoking table. We opted for the smoking section in the bar and were quickly seated at the only remaining open table. The decor in the bar area of Beto’s Original Mazatlan on McKinley in Mishawaka was typical of any bar area: a few nice pictures but mostly beer advertisements on flag banners and signs. It was clear the many patrons filling each table were not there for the atmosphere. Once the hot chips and fresh salsa arrived, we began to understand the full tables. The front of the menu notes Mazatlan is “Con Sabor a Mexico,” which translates to “A Taste of Mexico.” The service was a bit slow but we didn’t mind much since we were busy enjoying the great margaritas. The dinner portions were huge “ think doggy bag! And the salsa verde is awesome – order a side of it with anything you choose. Lunch specials run from $2.99 to 4.99, dinners from $5.99 to 12.99, and kids meals just $2.49 to 3.25. Can’t beat the prices, can”t beat the portions, and definitely can’t beat that salsa verde!
