It was built between 1903 and 1907 by the eponymic couple. Martin Beiger died during construction, and Susie Beiger lived in the home until 1927, when she fell on the staircase, broke her hip and died. Susie willed the building for the care of Mishawaka’s elderly women and it was used in that fashion until 1967. Then it was abandoned, rescued and renovated by a group of citizens. After the renovations it was set ablaze in an unsolved arson, renovated again, and now serves as a bed and breakfast.

Other bed and breakfasts in the South Bend area include:

The Oliver Inn, South Bend

The Cushing Manor Inn, South Bend

The Innisfree, South Bend

The Scottish Bed and Breakfast, Bremen

The Patchwork Quilt Inn, Middlebury

“The Beiger Mansion” at 317 Lincolnway East in Mishawaka may have the most interesting history of any building in the city.
