My parents are trying hard to relocate here – they are on a fixed budget and the realtor is showing them houses around 110,000 – more than they should spend – I want them in a safe area, but don’t want them “married” to their house. I am not as familiar with South Bend as I should be, nor Mishawaka. Anyone give me some areas/street names etc that have houses on the market for 75K-95K?

Please include the neighborhood north at least to McKinley Avenue and west of Trinity School at Greenlawn (Avenue), with the fine older and well maintained homes on streets like Colfax and LaSalle. Also you missed Harter Heights, the more modest but still desireable and attractive area just south off Angela Blvd east of Michigan (US 933) to Eddy Street. Just outside of the area that is called Harter Heights, Notre Dame has torn down a lot of older, less expensive homes on and just off Notre Dame Avene and has built large new homes for its staff and will add condos, apartments and commercial property along Eddy from Angela and south.

Would you / someone please write a bit about the atmosphere of each neighborhood? What is a profile of people who live there? Something beyond schools/size of houses, please. What is a “cool” place to live.

I’m curious about profiles of Miami Village, Sunnymeade, and Twyckenham Hills.

Twyckenham Hills is awesome. The schools are pretty good, the houses are reasonable, the crime is extremely low and the neighborhood is well kept. Although the houses average between 1000-2000 square feet with no basements, I’m noticing a LOT of people sticking around because o the safe feel and close proximity to everything Michiana has to offer.

After looking at the map you’ve made; I would say you’ve nailed the Miami Village pretty well.
