The Beiger Mansion” at 317 Lincolnway East in Mishawaka may have the most interesting history of any building in the city. It was built between 1903 and 1907 by the eponymic couple. Martin Beiger died during construction, and Susie Beiger lived in the home until 1927, when she fell on the staircase, broke her hip and died. Susie willed the building for the care of Mishawaka’s elderly women and it was used in that fashion until 1967. Then it was abandoned, rescued and renovated by a group of citizens. After the renovations it was set ablaze in an unsolved arson, renovated again, and now serves as a bed and breakfast.

  1. I wish the owners of the Beiger Mansion would work on the appearance of the building. Its a shame they won’t try to restore the trim and paint around the roof area, which looks bad even in the little picture provided on the website.

  2. Daniel. Yes, the trim is bad. It’s on the long list of things that need to be done. Maybe if you donated the $250k it would get done faster.

  3. Hey, it is always great to have some one critique but……”It’s a shame they won’t try to restore” …. do you live in a vacummm? Over the past 3 years the mansion has had a complete tuck point job, Limestone restoration and this meant dismantle of the front veranhda and rebuild (which was a 3 month project and one could not help but to notice) as well flat roofs have been replaced.
The Main roof and the cornice that tops the building is slatted for next year restoring it to the original clay tile. Not to mention the extensive work on the inside. This isn’t a 2bedroom home , weare talking about 22,000 sq ft. of consatant attention.
